The Israeli Defense Forces say they killed dozens of Hamas terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip overnight. Hamas reportedly fought back with anti-tank missiles, explosives, and grenades.
As many as 9,900 people have been killed in the war on both sides during the past four weeks.
Israel also carried out a second airstrike on Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp yesterday. They stated they targeted a Hamas command center and killed the ringleader of the Oct. 7 attack.
Palestinian health officials claim the back-to-back strikes on the largest refugee camp killed nearly 200 Palestinians. One United Nations agency warns that could be a war crime. But Israel blames Hamas for endangering lives by hiding in or under civilian infrastructure.
The Gaza Strip is roughly 141 square miles, yet Hamas has built an extensive labyrinth believed to contain 200 miles of tunnels.
Most of the more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas four weeks ago are most likely underground in these tunnels. Israeli officials warn that this labyrinth will make a sweeping invasion of Gaza significantly more challenging.
