Frustrations are growing in the House of Representatives as the Republican conference failed for the second time in as many days to choose a House Speaker.

House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan’s support seems to be slipping. On Wednesday, 22 Republicans voted against Jordan (R-Ohio), up two from Tuesday. Most of the other votes went to Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), both of whom are backing Jordan.

Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher says the conference is expected to “air grievances” following the second failed vote, but says he’s unsure where the party goes from there.

Several lawmakers have floated a short-term solution of expanding the powers of Speaker Pro-tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) in order to bring legislation to the floor. The pressure is on to find a solution as current government funding runs out in mid-November and lawmakers are anxious to respond to the war in Israel.
