New data shows that in one month alone, North Carolina abortions dropped by 31% thanks to the state’s 12-week ban.

The Tar Heel State narrowly passed the ban when Republican lawmakers overrode the governor’s veto of the bill back in May. The law took effect on July 1.

Data from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute shows 3,000 July abortions in the state, a major drop from the over 4,200 in June.

Guttmacher says the decline is likely because of an in-person counseling requirement that must be done at least 72 hours before an abortion. Fortunately, the data shows no corresponding increases in neighboring states that still allow second-term abortions.

This comes as South Carolina enacted a heartbeat ban last month, leaving Virginia as the only southern state to not enact pro-life measures following the overturning of Roe V. Wade.
