With Americans becoming more and more frustrated with Washington I,t’s not too surprising to learn that third-party support is through the roof.
A new Gallup poll shows 63% of Americans think that both the Republican and Democratic parties do “such a poor job” of representing the American people that “a third major party is needed.” That’s a 7-point increase from last year and a record high since Gallup first asked the question in 2003.
Independents are the most likely to want alternatives, with 75% saying they want a third party. But so do more than half of Republicans, 58% to be exact – more than a 10-point jump from last year. Meanwhile, 46% of Democrats also back the idea.
It’s a political situation presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hopes to capitalize on in the coming days.
Reports suggest the anti-establishment Democrat plans to mount a third-party campaign soon, a move that could have major implications for the 2024 election.
