Sen. Bob Menedez has found himself in the hot seat again.

The New Jersey Democrat was charged Friday with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in what’s now his second corruption-related indictment in 10 years.

Prosecutors say, in exchange for cash and other items, Menendez used his power and influence to seek to protect and enrich three businessmen and benefit the government of Egypt. Those bribes allegedly included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, a luxury car, and more.

Menendez says he has no plans to resign despite calls from within his own party to do so. He has temporarily stepped down from his role as chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.

Menendez is being charged alongside his wife and the three businessmen. They are expected to appear in a Manhattan federal court next week.
