Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington, D.C. on Thursday to seek even more support for the ongoing war effort against Russia.

Zelenskyy and President Joe Biden held a war council at the White House, during which Biden detailed a new $325 million aid package. In return, Zelensky thanked the U.S. for its ongoing support.

President Biden is currently requesting $24 billion in additional Ukrainian aid. That’s on top of the $113 billion already approved by Congress.

But it’s unclear if Congress will grant Biden’s latest request, as congressional Republicans are becoming increasingly weary of funding the war. Earlier this week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was asked about further supporting Ukraine.

McCarthy previously denied Zelenksyy’s request to speak to a joint session of Congress, opting instead to speak with the Ukrainian leader behind the scenes.

According to Jake Sherman at Punchbowl News, McCarthy says Zelenkyy answered a lot of his questions. But the House Speaker remained noncommittal about Biden’s request for more funds.
