The U.S. is agreeing to unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian funds in exchange for five Americans currently detained in Iran in a deal the Biden administration announced Monday.

In addition to the funds, the U.S. is also releasing five unidentified Iranian prisoners. The five Americans are currently under house arrest. Four of them were moved out of prison last month in the midst of negotiations.

Sources tell the AP the Americans could be released as soon as next week, but the timeframe has yet to be confirmed by the administration. However, not everyone is happy with the deal.

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said the swap only serves to incentivize future hostage situations. He also slammed the administration for announcing a deal with Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11.
