Former Proud Boys leader Henry “Enrique” Tarrio received the stiffest January 6 sentencing so far. A judge sentenced the 39-year-old to 22 years in prison Tuesday.

Tarrio wasn’t in Washington, D.C., in 2021, but a jury found him guilty of sedition back in May. He’s accused of leading an attempt to overturn election results and keep former President Donald Trump in power.

The alt-right group leader called the day a “national embarrassment.” He also said that he is not a political zealot and asked for leniency. But U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, believes Tarrio encouraged terrorism.

Another leader in the group, Ethan Nordean, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison on Friday. That’s a tie with the previous January 6 record held by Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes.

In all, five Proud Boy members will spend a sum of 82 years in prison for sedition and other felonies connected to the Capitol riot. More than 1,100 people have been charged for crimes in connection to that day.
