Russia confirmed yesterday that Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin died in a plane crash last week.

Moscow’s Investigative Committee says that forensic and genetic testing identified all 10 bodies recovered on Wednesday. A spokeswoman says the findings “conform to the manifest.”

That document listed Prigozhin, second-in-command Dmitry Utkin, and logistics chief Valery Chekalo as passengers. Four other passengers and three crew members also died. The plane was bound for St. Petersburg when, according to U.S. intelligence, an intentional explosion doomed the plane.

The mercenary led a 1-day mutiny against Russia two months ago. But the Kremlin says speculation that Russian President Putin is responsible for the deaths is a “complete lie.”

On Friday, Putin ordered all Wagner fighters to sign an oath of allegiance to the Russian state. This would require the mercenaries to follow the orders of military commanders.
