Representative Cory Mills made good on a promise earlier this year to file impeachment articles against Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
The Florida Republican told the Defense secretary back in March that he had drafted articles of impeachment over the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. That hasty removal of troops led to two hundred deaths, including 13 American service members.
Mills stated, “High-level officials in this administration blatantly ignored intel that Americans and our allied partners in Kabul would be left behind in harm’s way.”
He says that Austin forsook his sworn duties to the USA and national security with the decision. The congressman also remarked that it’s time to take real action to address the administration’s failure.
It appears to be the first time that articles of impeachment have been filed against a Defense secretary.
