Russian President Vladimir Putin has finally broken his silence on the death of Wagner group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose plane crashed on Wednesday, presumably killing everyone on board.

Putin addressed the crash during a TV interview Thursdaya, giving his condolences to Prigozhin’s family while also calling him a talented businessman” who made “serious mistakes in life” – apparently a reference to the short-lived Wagner mutiny from June.

Russian officials have not yet given an official cause for Wednesday’s crash, but US reports are offering some possible conclusions.

According to the Wall Street Journal, preliminary US intel suggests that either a bomb went off aboard the plane, or it was some other form of sabotage. Reuters reports that US officials say the plane was shot down by surface-to-air missiles originating from inside Russia.
