July’s border numbers saw a drastic spike across the board concerning illegal immigrant encounters.
The northern border saw a 36% increase in illegal immigrant encounters, rising from around 850 to 1,200. Meanwhile, at the southern border, there was a roughly 33% increase in illegal crossings, spiking from around 100,000 to 133,000 encounters.
But a rising concern is the spike in Chinese migrant encounters. Authorities reported a nearly 800% surge in Chinese illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, nearly all of whom are requesting asylum and claiming religious persecution.
But not everyone is buying it.
Author and Gatestone Institute senior fellow Gordon Chang says when he first saw the surge of Chinese migrants, he thought it was a potential national security concern.
He says “these are either Ministry of State Security agents or Chinese military, who are coming to this country to commit acts of sabotage against the US.”
