House Republicans have subpoenaed the heads of the Justice Department and FBI as the Judiciary Committee continues to investigate Big Tech censorship.
Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wants internal documents involving the moderation, suppression, or removal of social media content.
Notably, Jordan first asked Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray for these documents back in April after a round of Twitter Files were released. This revealed the departments urged the platform now known as X to crack down on the Hunter Biden laptop story.
But so far the Committee has received only one document. Jordan has given Garland and Wray until Sept. 15 to deliver the material.
Both departments responded that they do not censor content on social media platforms and are cooperating with the committee in good faith.
A federal judge recently ruled that the departments most likely violated Americans’ First Amendment rights.
