“State sanctioned kidnapping.” That’s how one legal group described Washington state’s new law concerning runaway children seeking so-called “gender-affirming care.”

America First Legal announced a lawsuit on Wednesday, taking issue with the law’s elimination of all requirements for shelters and host homes to notify parents for runaway children seeking transgender treatments.

State lawmakers passed the bill this April, but not without strong pushback from state Republicans like Rep. Jim Walsh.

AFL President Stephen Miller says the law “allows the state to kidnap children from their parents and hide their whereabouts to surgically and chemically mutilate them.” He says AFL will be “unrelenting” in opposing the law.
