President Joe Biden has agreed to pay Iran $6 billion in exchange for the freedome of five American prisoners.
The U.S. government reported Thursday that the Americans were wrongfully detained on bogus spying charges and were moved from prison to house arrest as the negotiations are finalized. The process is expected to take another month.
But Conservatives are opposing the deal, saying , while they celebrate the safe return of American citizens, the payment will only fund terrorism and incentivize taking further hostages. Former Secretary of State Mike Pomeo said, “Iran shouldn’t profit from holding Americans hostage.”
But current Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this exchange will not affect other diplomatic stances concerning Iran.
