Special Counsel Jack Smith secretly searched through former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, according to newly unsealed court documents.

The Justice Department first sought the data records all the way back in January. But a gag order prevented the company, now known as X, from warning Trump about the search warrant.

The social media platform fought back against the order through a quiet legal battle that apparently ended a few weeks ago. A lower court sided with the special counsel’s assertion that Trump might destroy evidence or notify confederates if he was tipped off about the warrant. An appeals court upheld that decision a few weeks ago.

Now that it’s all unsealed, Trump says it was a major violation of his civil rights.

Meanwhile, in the classified documents case, the former president is asking the government to reestablish a secure facility at or near Mar-a-Lago. Right now, Trump can’t talk defense plans with his lawyers without moving to a secure facility. That means mobilizing a security detail and local law enforcement.
