A recent Supreme Court gun ruling has led to a win for Colorado gun owners.
A statewide ban on the sale of firearms to anyone under 21 went into effect Monday; but it’s already been shot down by a federal judge who says it contradicts the 2022 Bruen v. New York decision.
Judge Phillip Brimmer wrote in his ruling that the state provided no evidence that a total ban on firearm sales was “consistent with the right to bear arms.”
Rocky Mountain Gun Owners sued back in April on behalf of two defendants who were between the ages of 18 and 20. The executive director of the group says lawmakers were warned the ban was unconstitutional. He says by passing it anyway, legislators cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.
The group also sued over a measure that created a waiting period for firearm purchases, but the judge has not yet ruled on that challenge.
