If you started back-to-school shopping over the weekend, you might have noticed that – like everything else – prices are a bit higher than last year.
According to the National Retail Federation, parents are expected to spend up to $42.5 billion on school supplies this year. That’s up from $37 billion for last school year.
A Crayola poll shared with Axios found that 30 percent of families said inflation will have a big impact on their ability to buy school supplies this year. Thankfully, some states are stepping in to try to ease the financial burden.
Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and West Virginia offered tax-free purchases this past weekend. Several other states have upcoming tax holidays as well.
