Children’s Hospital Colorado is stopping all transgender surgeries. The hospital says it never did trans surgeries on patients under 18, but will no longer offer them for adults.
A hospital spokesperson cited “unprecedented referrals” and backlash as reasons for stopping the controversial procedures. The Denver Post reports the hospital has removed references to “gender-affirming care” from its website.
The state of Colorado considers transgender treatments a “right” and, as such, the hospital will still offer puberty blockers and hormone treatments. It will also refer surgical care to other hospitals.
This comes as 21 states are working to crackdown on these treatments for kids, saying they cause irreversible harm.
