House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) posted a lengthy Twitter thread Thursday sharing what he called “smoking gun documents” concerning government censorship on Facebook.
He shared an April 2021 email where Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company was facing pressure from the White House to remove posts criticizing the COVID-19 vaccine. That same year, the White House was publicly calling on Facebook to censor content.
Jordan gave examples of the White House asking Facebook to take down a meme attacking the vaccine and to pull a video posted by Tucker Carlson. Facebook ultimately decided to change its misinformation policies, because of continued pressure from the Biden administration.
Jordan’s Twitter thread comes after he threatened to hold Zuckerberg in contempt of Congress for failing to hand over requested documents. He says contempt is still on the table if Facebook fails to fully cooperate.
