There really aren’t any good options for President Joe Biden as he seeks to ward off accusations of corruption against himself and his family, especially when his son offers statements that contradict his father’s assertions.
Wednesday, Hunter Biden told a federal judge that he has received about $600,000 from a Chinese Communist Party-linked company, which was the precise opposite of what the president has previously told the nation.
“My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China,” the elder Biden said during a 2020 presidential debate. “The only guy who made money from China is [then-President Donald Trump]. He’s the only one. Nobody else has made money from China.”
But Hunter told the judge that not only had he made more than a half-million dollars, but he did so while working with a business partner named Ye Jianming.
“In the transcript from Hunter Biden’s plea agreement hearing, Hunter ADMITS that CCP-linked CEFC Chairman Ye Jianming was his business partner,” a tweet from House Oversight Republicans read.

Making matters worse for the Bidens, Hunter’s plea deal, what conservatives have come to refer to as the “sweetheart deal,” was rejected Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreikaw.
The judge said she was hesitant to okay a deal which offered Hunter broad immunity, including language that would prevent the federal government from prosecuting the younger Biden on tax-related crimes in the future. Noreikaw pointed to the fact that Hunter is still under investigation and could eventually face other charges.
Now, the White House is seeking to get plenty of distance between itself and the presidential son.
“Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and this was a personal matter for him,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing. “As we have said, the president, the First Lady, they love their son, and they support him as he continues to rebuild his life.”
When Jean-Pierre was asked if the president would consider pardoning his son if Hunter were to be convicted on tax crimes or a lingering gun charge, she replied, “No.”
On the other side of the aisle, though, Republicans say the president and his son are inextricably linked, from the heightened security Hunter enjoys to the elite business connections he’s made through his father.
“Whether or not Joe Biden was directly involved with his family’s schemes – as text messages, emails, photos, visitor logs, and on-the-record accounts all suggest – is not a ‘personal matter,’” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) contends both Bidens should face heightened scrutiny as more evidence has emerged.
Hunter Biden’s plea deal blew up because of ongoing investigations into Biden family corruption.
Since the announcement of the sweetheart deal, new whistleblowers have provided treasure troves of new evidence.

Democrats in Congress have remained mostly silent on the Bidens’ legal issues; and when they’ve spoken, it’s been with fealty to both party and president.
The most profound anger that Democrats have expressed about the Hunter investigation have been complaints that Republicans are harping on the matter and exasperation over Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene showing censored sex photos of Hunter Biden in Congress.
This week, Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.) introduced a resolution to censure Greene, a measure that has little chance to succeed in a Republican-controlled House.
“For me, censuring Rep. Taylor Greene is about the health of our democracy and faith in government,” Balint said in a statement. “Her antisemitic, racist, transphobic rhetoric has no place in the House of Representatives.”
Balint added, “Unserious elected officials like Taylor Greene make a mockery of our democratic institutions and derail us from the urgent work we’ve been tasked with.”
Greene responded by alleging she was being targeted for anti-woke politics.
“This week Democrats have directed all of their outrage at me, instead of the crimes of Hunter Biden or the genital mutilation of children,” Greene tweeted. “They are upset with me because I dared to show the proof of Hunter Biden’s sex trafficking and tax fraud crimes and continue to stand up for kids subjected to insane gender ideology.”
It’s unlikely Democrats will be able to fully distract the nation or media from the Biden story with attacks on Greene, who has proven polarizing even within her own party.
Hunter Biden will eventually have to reach a new deal with prosecutors or face a trial. In either case, the son’s issues will remain an albatross for the commander in chief.
