It looks like the record-breaking heatwave across the Southwest is not slowing any time soon, as nearly a quarter of Americans remain under heat alerts from Florida to Nevada.

Temperatures peaked over the weekend, with numbers as high as 128 degrees in the California desert. The National Weather Service forecasts “widespread record-breaking high temperatures” as the “relentless heat impacts” are expected to continue through at least Tuesday.

The NWS also stressed how dangerous this heat can be, saying, “it’s important that everyone takes this dangerous heat seriously and practices heat safety to avoid heat-related illness.”

Matthew Lamar, Death Valley Park Ranger, remarked that a number of people visited the location over the weekend to see what these high temperatures actually feel like.

Canada is still in the middle of its worst wildfire season on record.
