Journalist Evan Gershkovich may possibly be part of a prisoner exchange after spending more than 100 days in a Russian prison on espionage charges.

President Joe Biden said Thursday that the negotiation process is already underway to free the Wall Street Journalist.

Moscow hinted earlier this month that it was open to the idea of a prisoner exchange, but those talks are out of the public eye.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also confirmed discussions last week. Unfortunately, he said those talks had not yet resulted in a clear pathway to the journalist’s freedom.

Courts in Moscow upheld a ruling to keep Gershkovich in custody until Aug. 30, but authorities haven’t supported the charges with evidence.

The White House has previously said Gershkovich has been wrongfully detained.
