A gender and LGBTQ advocacy group is suing Idaho over the state’s so-called “abortion travel ban.”

The organization, Legal Voice, is claiming that the ban is “poorly written and unconstitutional.” But according to the state, the ban’s intended purpose is to stop adults from assisting minors in getting an abortion who are not their children. Republican lawmakers argue that the state ban is a parental rights law, not a ban on interstate travel.

Idaho has enacted one of the strictest abortion laws after Roe v. Wade was overturned, permitting abortion only in rare cases. Legal Voice is challenging the ban based on First Amendment rights.
