It looks like Georgia is seeing a major shift, as State Rep. Mesha Mainor just announced that she’ll be switching from the Democratic Party to the GOP.
Mainor says after she broke with party lines on some key issues, chief among them school vouchers, she was “abandoned and crucified” by her Democratic colleagues. The GOP welcomed her with open arms.
Mainer represents a solidly blue district, who voted 89% for Biden in the 2020 election. But she said her decision to switch parties was not a political one, but a moral one.
Looking to the future, Mainor says education issues will remain her priority, but she also wants to “help grow the Republican Party, helping us focus on not just preaching to the choir, but growing the congregation.”
