As we gear up for Fourth of July, it’s worth noting that overall patriotism has been on a gradual decline since the early 2000s.
A new Gallup poll released Thursday said that those who are “extremely proud” of America are just below 40%, an unchanged record low since last year. Meanwhile, 22% of Americans say they’re “moderately proud” and only 4% aren’t proud at all.
According to Gallup, the greatest indicator of patriotism is political affiliation.
Currently, more than half of Republicans say they’re proud of their country compared to less than a third of Democrats. These numbers seem to fluctuate depending on the president who represents the country at the time.
