UPS is on the verge of a catastrophic strike.
The Teamsters union says a strike is “inevitable” unless UPS brings its “best and final offer” to the bargaining table Friday.
The labor union is threatening to strike by Aug.1 when the current contract expires. Workers are demanding better pay, safer working conditions, and an end to forced overtime.
The strike could be the largest in decades and would likely thrust the commerce industry into chaos. It also could create political problems for the Biden administration going into 2024.
Speaking to a crowd of union workers at a campaign rally two weeks ago, Biden touted himself as “the most pro-union president in American history.” But the claim will be put to the test if the packages stop getting delivered later this summer.
The last time Biden had the chance to prove his pro-labor bonafides, he broke up a railroad strike.
