A new religious persecution report castigates Western leaders for ignoring escalating religious freedom violations against more than half the world’s population. The latest report highlights an escalation in religious persecution around the globe.
Aid to the Church in Need identified 61 countries where people are not free to practice, express, or change their religion. Five billion people live in these countries, making up over 60% of the global population.
The organization says the worst offenders are also key players in various forms of energy production. They say this is why the West is turning a blind eye to the problem.
And the problem is only getting worse. From last year’s report, nine countries showed improvement, but the state of religious freedom in 47 nations worsened.
