The Florida federal judge overseeing the Justice Department’s case against former President Donald Trump rejected a request from special counsel Jack Smith to shield a list of 84 potential witnesses from public view.
Judge Aileen Cannon said the request did not give a reason for sealing the list nor did it explain why other options – like redactions for certain key witnesses – would not be enough.
Meanwhile, CNN dropped bombshell audio Monday of what appears to be Trump sharing classified information about military plans to attack Iran.
The audio is from a 2021 meeting in Bedminster, New Jersey, during which Trump spoke to a writer, publisher, and two Trump staff members. A redacted transcript of the conversations was originally seen in the special counsel’s indictment against Trump.
In the recording, Trump seems to admit that the information he’s sharing was never declassified.
The audio appears to contradict comments made by Trump during an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier last week.
Trump responded to the recording, accusing the special counsel of leaking the tape. But it remains unclear who shared the audio at this time.
