Wednesday, the European Union announced a new round of sanctions against Russia for its war on Ukraine.

This is now the 11th round of sanctions the EU has imposed since Feb. 24, 2002 ,  always with the goal of crippling Moscow’s trade efforts. But some countries have continued normal trade with Russia, creating a loophole for the country to gain fresh war supplies.

The latest batch of sanctions is meant to close those loopholes. The EU will restrict sales of sensitive goods to countries that are caught passing those items on to Russia.

The EU also pledged several billion dollars in non-military aid to help rebuild Ukraine, including bringing them into the coalition.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities say they brought down two Ukrainian drones outside Moscow Thursday. The drones were allegedly approaching the warehouse of a local military unit. The Russian Defense Ministry called it “an unsuccessful attempt at a terrorist attack.” Ukraine has not confirmed the attack.
