U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are stopping mobile app appointments at one border crossing after they found out migrants are being extorted.

The Biden administration widely touted the CBP One app as a solution to dangerous illegal border crossings, but CBP announced Monday that there would be no new appointments for Laredo, Texas.

The announcement offered no explanation, but AP News reported that migrants with appointments were facing extortion. Mexican officials in Nuevo Laredo were detaining these migrants until they received money.

CBP One will remain operational for the other seven ports of entry. The 1,300 daily appointments in Laredo will now be redistributed to other entries.
