A House vote took an unexpected turn for a second day in a row Wednesday, when conservatives blocked party-line Republican measures in order to spite House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Now the Speaker is taking a pause and listening to the disgruntled voices.

McCarthy held long discussions with the GOP lawmakers who were not happy with the debt-ceiling compromise. In an effort to continue these conversations, the speaker has also canceled floor votes for the rest of the week .

While the talks aren’t all smooth sailing, McCarthy says he’s confident in a resolution.

Meanwhile this is the first serious threat to McCarthy’s position as speaker, as he barely maintained the slim GOP majority to regain control of the House floor.
