Nine California teenagers have been arrested for brutally beating three marines.

It all began when one of the victims approached the rowdy crowd of around forty teens. The man self-identified himself as a marine, then asked the teens to stop lighting fireworks. But they didn’t respond well.

The Marines attempted to walk away, but what followed was a violent mob attack that pushed two of the men to the ground. The mob continued to kick and beat the men until two other adults intervened.

Police say four males and one female have since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. An additional four minors are reportedly charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

The department says they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
