The largest name in abortion is cutting national programs to push back against pro-life victories on the state level.

Planned Parenthood announced yesterday they will be making budget and staffing cuts so they can refocus on a state-by-state agenda. By scaling back national programs, they are freeing up $70 million to invest directly into states.

CEO Alexis McGill Johnson says, “The shifting landscape requires very difficult decisions about the way forward.”

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe last summer freed states to create pro-life laws. Fourteen states now restrict abortion with near-total bans.

The organization plans to increase affiliates’ funding to provide other care in these areas. Meanwhile, they will better fund affiliates in nearby abortion states.

Additionally, the organization says it is a priority for them to reduce stigma and rebuilding a federal right to abortion.
