President Joe Biden is expected to make a reelection announcement as early as tomorrow, even as a large majority of Americans, including his own Democratic party, don’t want him to run again.
A source familiar with the planning told CBS News that the Biden team is aiming to release a video on Tuesday, April 25. That will be the fourth anniversary of the day he announced his last presidential bid in 2019.
President Biden is expected to choose Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a senior adviser and assistant to the president, as his campaign manager.
This comes as a new NBC poll shows Americans don’t want Biden or Trump to run in 2024. According to the poll, 70% of voters, including 51% of Democrats, don’t want Biden to run for a second turn, with 69% citing his age as a reason why.
Meanwhile, 60% of Americans said they don’t want to see former President Donald Trump back in the Oval Office, including a third of Republicans.
Biden is likely to run a competitive race in 2024, despite reservations from voters. The current Real Clear Politics polling average shows Trump with a 1.3% lead over Biden in the general election.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has yet to announce a presidential campaign, is polling slightly better than Trump with a 1.9% lead over President Biden.
