The Department of Justice (DOJ) is apparently ready to recommend zero jail time to 31-year-old Maeve Nota in a hate crime case that has drawn national attention.

Nota was originally facing numerous charges, and a likely jail sentence as well as fines, for acts that he committed at the St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue, Washington.

Nota was caught on video desecrating an Italian-made Blessed Virgin Mary statue, spray painting church walls with vile expletives, and assaulting a church employee who tried to stop the mayhem.

When attempting to apprehend the suspect, police reported that Nota smashed their vehicle with a backpack full of spray paint cans. Despite this rampage, the defendant brokered a plea agreement with the DOJ whereby he would plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of destruction of religious property.

His plea could have resulted in one year in prison, up to a $100,000 fine, and five years of probation. However Fox News Digital is reporting that the DOJ has recommended no jail time for the accused.

The recommendation has drawn the ire of conservatives who are incensed by what they perceive as selective outrage on the part of the Biden administration’s DOJ when it comes to trying cases that involve religious concerns.

Attorney General Merrick Garland’s prosecutorial zeal in targeting people of faith for Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act violations, have many in an uproar. The FACE Act criminalizes using force with the intent to injure, intimidate and interfere with workers at pregnancy centers.

According to Catholic Vote trackers, the DOJ charged 26 pro-life activists with FACE Act violations in 2022 while not one pro-abortion activist was charged with the same crime that year.

Investigators reported to KOMO news that Nota’s wrath on the church was the result of his displeasure with the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade the week before.

Regardless of the outcome of this case, Maeve Nota will ultimately have to answer to someone who is not influenced by conservative or liberal government officials, God.

The Bible is replete with scripture instructing his followers to respect the house of God. Exodus 25:8 says, “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them”. This sanctuary or church is referenced in Leviticus 26:2 – “Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord. And lastly, Habakkuk 2:20 says – The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.”
