President Joe Biden told weatherman and “TODAY” show co-host Al Roker that he plans to run for a second term, but isn’t ready to make an official announcement.

“I plan on running, Al, but we’re not prepared to announce it yet,” Biden told Roker before the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.

Biden has indicated several times he plans to run in 2024. According to a January report from The Hill, citing multiple anonymous sources including one close to Biden’s 2020 campaign, a formal announcement is reportedly expected sometime in April.

Biden’s anticipated reelection bid comes as he continues to struggle in the polls. A new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS shows Biden with a 42% approval rating, with 57% disapproving.

Only 32% said Biden deserved to be reelected, while a poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov shows that 58% of respondents don’t want President Joe Biden to run again in 2024.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side of the aisle, former President Donald Trump is shaping up for a rematch with Joe Biden, as he’s surging in the polls following his indictment.

The latest polling from Trafalgar Group shows 56.2% of Republicans plan on supporting Trump in the upcoming GOP primaries, a massive spike from the 43.8% who said the same prior to Trump saying he would be indicted.

While the indictment is helping him in the primaries, the question remains whether it will help Trump defeat Biden in the 2024 general election.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr told ABC’s “This Week” he believes the indictment “will gravely weaken Trump” in the general election. “He’s already, I think, a weak candidate that would lose, but I think this sort of assures it.”

The latest Real Clear Politics polling average currently shows Trump leading Biden by 1.8%.
