New Lifeway Research shows that most Americans still believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The recently released State of Theology shows that two out of three adults believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. This includes 58% of adults under 34. Only 23% of Americans say the Easter events did not happen, while 11% question the account.
This is fairly consistent with results since Lifeway first began measuring belief in the resurrection in 2014. But the statistics show there is a disconnect between this belief and understanding the significance of why Christ died.
Over half of the survey-takers say the Bible contains myths that cannot be taken literally, and only 52% believe the Bible is a moral authority.
But, in a bit of good news, more Americans now believe the Bible is 100% true compared to a decade ago. Quite a few respondents say the Bible is the highest authority for their beliefs.
