One Los Angeles Dodgers player hasn’t set foot on the field since 2018, but the team just recently renewed his contract for the upcoming season.

The heartwarming move shows great care for Andrew Toles, who struggles with his mental health.

The former baseball player originally signed with the Dodgers in 2016. But just two years later his schizophrenia and bipolar disorder forced him into early retirement.

But Toles remains a reserve player for the Dodgers on a zero-dollar contract so he can keep his health insurance. This gives him access to much-needed mental health services.

Tragically, the retired baseball player lives in a state of active psychosis. His father, Alvin, has said the challenges are nothing that God cannot handle, though.

Meanwhile, his team remembers him fondly and hope that Toles will one day be well enough to attend one of their games.
