Israel ratified a law today limiting the circumstances in which a prime minister can be removed.
The Knesset passed the law in a 61-to-47 final vote, which prevents the supreme court from declaring a prime minister unfit. Under the law prime ministers can be removed if three-quarters of cabinet ministers say so.
Netanyahu’s coalition says the reform is meant to stop judicial overreach. Critics say it’s meant to shield Netanyahu from any fallout from his corruption trials.
Netanyahu denies all charges against him, and has cast the trials as a politicized bid to force him out of office.
