The Biden Administration is facing a new supply chain crisis after medical professionals warn of cancer drug shortages.
Some of these drugs are critically low or already being rationed – including the chemotherapy drug methotrexate used for leukemia and other cancers.
One used for metastatic prostrate cancer won’t be available for months. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists say drug shortages are “the worst they’ve been in a decade.”
The society says that quality control issues and plant closures have created the crisis.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has frequently sidestepped questions about these plant closures and the White House’s responsibility in the matter.
Yesterday, the Senate reported that shortages in the United States are at a record five-year high with 295 drugs affected. The average shortage lasts about 1.5 years.
