Last week, the Mid Vermont Christian School girls’ basketball team chose to forfeit their first-round game in the state playoff tournament rather than play against their opponent, Long Trail, which had a biological male playing on the team.

“We believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players,” MVCS head of school Vicky Fogg told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.”

Vermont state law allows transgender athletes to play on sports teams based on their gender identity. The Vermont Agency of Education’s best practices guide for transgender students states,

Transgender and gender nonconforming students are to be provided the same opportunities to participate in physical education as are all other students. Participation in competitive athletic activities and sports will be resolved on a case-by-case basis.

Mid Vermont Christan School opened its doors in September 1987 with a mission to “glorify God by preparing students for college and for life through a program of academic excellence established in Biblical truth.”
