LeBron James could miss several weeks with an injured right foot, according to multiple reports.
The NBA’s all-time scoring leader was injured in the Los Angeles Lakers’ comeback win over Dallas on Sunday night. He stayed in the game and limped out of the arena.
The severity of James’ injury isn’t yet known pending further tests. ESPN and other news outlets reported the Lakers fear James could miss significant time with an injury described as “right foot soreness.”
The four-time NBA champion leads the Lakers in scoring at 29.5 points per game. Los Angeles is battling for a playoff spot after making several trades before the All-Star break earlier this month. Missing James for an extended period could decrease the Lakers’ chances of earning a spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
James, a 19-time All-Star, is playing his 20th NBA season.
In other NBA injury news, Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball broke his right ankle after making six 3-pointers in a 117-106 victory over Detroit on Monday night.
Ball was dribbling near the perimeter when he took a step and fell to the court without making contact with anyone. He immediately grabbed his ankle and was taken to the locker room. Tests confirmed a fracture in his ankle.
The injury would likely end Ball’s season. The Hornets are 20-43 with only 19 games remaining.
Ball had a stellar year in his third season with Charlotte. He averaged career-highs in points at 23.4 per game and assists with 8.5. He’s also averaged a career-best 35.6 minutes per game.
