On Thursday, Just the News issued a troubling report on the apparent widespread misconduct among FBI agents during the last two years, including misplacing weapons, misplacing classified documents, sexual abuse, and disorderly behavior against children.

The report reveals an apparent failure among many FBI agents to adequately and appropriately fulfill their job responsibilities.

One instance revealed an agent had left a deadly loaded weapon in an unlocked car, but only received a two-week-long suspension as punishment.

The reports says,

Although there was a lockbox in the trunk for storage of weapons and sensitive items, the agent chose to store the rifle bag behind the car’s front passenger seat. While Employee was in the Starbucks, the Bucar was burglarized. The rear passenger, rear driver, and tailgate windows were broken, and the rifle bag containing the M4 was stolen.

Just the News revealed that the misconduct was so widespread, the FBI initially elected to under-report the findings, so as not to “shame” the FBI agents whose reputations would be damaged. The FBI eventually came around and released the full findings.

An April 2022 message from the Bureau said,

OPR suspended sending our quarterly email that details employee misconduct and its consequences. We wanted to weigh the value of publishing this information with the discomfort employees harmed by misconduct may feel at its having been published … In the seven months since, we’ve spoken extensively with affected employees and consulted with several divisions, including the Victim Services Division. After a great deal of deliberation, we have decided to resume the quarterly email. We made this decision as the vast majority of employees we spoke with indicated they wanted publication to resume.

Other reports reveal agents drove under the influence and perpetrated sexual abuse, with a widespread trend for agents to be under-punished or not punished at all for their conduct.

Author’s Biblical Analysis

This a troubling report, especially considering the controversy surrounding the FBI’s apparent targeting of conservatives and lax attitude toward reports of domestic terrorism against pro-life centers.

Christians need to be aware of these things and be ready to learn from this misconduct of one of the highest law enforcement organizations in the world. First, we must see the clear and obvious warning to not do what so many FBI agents are doing.

Our conduct must be above reproach. We must live knowing the world is watching, not in a way to look “holy” in the world’s eyes, but to bring glory to the God we serve. We have a weighty calling to not bring shame to the name of God.

We see another warning as we move deeper into a world that is hostile to the gospel. Believer, do not put your hope in any man-made system but put your hope instead in the Lord Jesus Christ.

This report is a harrowing revelation of the sinfulness of man. Even the institutions that are supposed to be the greatest defense against injustice are full of unjust men and women. In this particular report, we see people who are supposed to defend justice act unjustly even while they are on the job of defending justice.

If your hope rests in a politician, a political party, an institution, a relationship, or anything that is not founded on the sure foundation of Jesus Christ, you will be let down.

Believer, please understand: there may come a day, and for some of us it is here now, when institutions like the FBI will come after believers simply for following Christ.

Take courage! Our Lord promised us that, if we belong to Him, we will be hated and persecuted by those who hate Him too. We should not be surprised when a sinful world that hates God also hates the people who love God.

Be strong, and stand firm. And above all, anchor your hope not to any human institution, but to the victorious Lord Jesus Christ.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.  – Joshua 1:9
