China has pulled a drastic about-face from its former stance on population control and will now offer free fertility care in a panicked effort to reverse the nation’s population drop, according to yesterday’s report from CNN.
Many sociological experts believe the change is a direct result of China’s longtime draconian one-child-per-family policy of the 20th century.
In 2022, the same year India officially surpassed China as the world’s most populous nation, the population of China dropped by almost 1 million, the first time it has decreased at all in 60 years.
According to CNN, China’s National Healthcare Security Administration announced late last week that it will provide financial assistance to families who are trying to have children.
The “one-child” policy was one of the most insidious in the world and likely resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Chinese children, at the very least, both inside the womb and outside.
The policy was discontinued in 2015, but a three-child-per-family restriction is still in place as of a 2021 amendment. It appears these restrictions have caught up with Chinese authorities, who are now forced to make a 180-degree turn to regenerate population growth.

For Christians, the catastrophic results of China’s wicked population control policy should not be surprising in the least bit.
It is no wonder that the nation is now scrambling desperately to allow women to have children more easily. Chinese authorities are sleeping in the bed they made, reaping the results of an iron-fisted policy that blatantly infringed upon the God-given right for parents to “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:28)
I believe the lesson we are to learn here is simple: The wisdom of the world is folly. Only from God can we find true wisdom and understanding.
Worldly wisdom (such as a one-child policy) always leads to ruin in the end. It is foolishness because it is born from the minds of sinful men whose ultimate desire is not to please God but to be God.
When we rely upon the wisdom of the world for prosperity and flourishing, we will be let down every time.
This is why we must forsake our vain attempts at wisdom and instead rely on the wisdom of God. Let us submit to God’s Word, understand God’s Word, and love God’s Word, because in it we find true freedom and true life.
In all of it, let us remember to not foolishly attempt to be God. We are not God, and even when we are freed from eternally in glory and made perfect, we will still not be God and we will never be God.
Instead, let us joyfully submit to God, walking in His ways and being obedient to His commands.
