New York City officials have reached an agreement to build the city’s first professional soccer stadium in Queens, Mayor Eric Adams announced on Wednesday.
The 25,000-seat stadium will be home to Major League Soccer’s New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and is set to be completed in 2027.
NYCFC will pay roughly $780 million to build the privately funded stadium on city land, the mayor announced. The team will pay up to $4 million per year to lease the land from the city.
New York taxpayers will be on the hook for $200 to $300 million in government subsidies that will go into building affordable housing apartment complexes that will be built adjacent to the stadium, officials announced.

The stadium will be located across the street from Citi Field, home of the New York Mets baseball team, and will be part of a broader waterfront project that will include housing and a hotel. NYCFC currently plays its home games in Yankee Stadium.
