Former President Trump said during a rally in Texas on Saturday that he ‘will probably have’ to run for president again in 2024 amid speculation that he will announce a bid for a second term in office next month.

“I ran twice. I won twice. I did much better the second time than I did before,” Trump said in Robstown, Texas, while stumping for local GOP candidates. 

“Getting millions more votes in 2020 than 2016 and likewise, getting more votes than any sitting president in the history of our country by far. And now in order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably have to do it again,” the 45th president said.

The comments are the latest tease at a potential 2024 campaign by the former president, having made similar hints last month in Pennsylvania. 

Over the summer, Trump suggested that any announcements concerning his candidacy would not come until after the midterms. 

“But first, we have to win a historic victory for the Republican Party this November when we retake Congress among our highest priorities must be to end the nightmare Joe Biden has created on our southern border,” he said while speaking at a rally for Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake. 

Should Trump choose to run again, he might have some challengers. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he would decide whether or not to run after the midterms, but said Trump would not play a role in his decision. Trump has said any challenge from former administration officials would be “very disloyal.”

The latest Real Clear Politics polling average shows Trump in a dead heat with President Joe Biden in a hypothetical rematch, with Trump holding a 0.2-point lead. 

Meanwhile, a September poll showed a majority of Americans do not want Trump or Biden to run in 2024 — Trump due to his personality and Biden due to his policies.
