The Social Security Administration (SSA) is now allowing individuals to self-select their gender, in yet another example of the LGBTQ revolution running rampant in America.

The National Center for Transgender Equality lays out the details for gender dysphoric persons who wish to alter their legal gender on its website. It says,

Under current policy, a transgender person can change their gender on their Social Security records by submitting either government-issued documentation reflecting a change, or a certification from a physician confirming that they have had appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition.

The group then answers several frequently asked questions, ranging from gender changes affecting health benefits and social security benefits to clarifying the “appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition.”

This new clarification by the SSA comes in an increasing push from the left to promote the LGBTQ agenda and radical gender ideology in every facet of society.

Author’s Biblical Analysis:

Even with a mere basic knowledge of scripture, Christians realize the sinfulness of the transgender movement and the LGBTQ revolution as a whole as it goes against God’s design for humanity.

We are seeing, in some strikingly poignant ways, Paul’s description of human sinfulness and its disastrous results from Romans 1:24-27 in countless real-life examples:

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

We could go on about how the constant pursuit and praise of sexual desires outside of the guidelines God has set for us highlights the moral depravity in America, but I believe our time would be best suited to think humbly about this issue.

Therefore, our encouragement for today is this – Do not fall into the susceptible trap of idolatry.

The sin of idolatry, namely self-idolatry, is in many ways the sin behind all sin. It was the heart of the Serpent’s temptation when he lied to Adam and Eve in the garden and told them “You will be like God” when they would eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3). The temptation is this: You get to be God.

This sin is at the heart of the transgender revolution. Think about this: Who is the supreme author of human gender? Who decides which person is male and which is female? It is utterly clear. Almighty God is the author and creator of gender, and any attempt to change, twist, or pervert God’s design is an affront to God’s authority, the sin of self-idolatry.

I believe that temptation is present in the hearts of gender revolutionaries. The allure of “calling the shots” is enticing. When society yells, “You cannot tell me what my gender is,” at the heart of this cry is the sinful desire to be God rather than living in submission to God.

But friends, do not miss the fact that this temptation comes after all of us. We must be especially on guard against the sin of self-idolatry, a sin that truly is universal to man. Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought, as you and I are tempted with this exact infraction every day.

What is our solution? How do we break free of the sin of self-idolatry?

The answer is clear — Look to Christ as your example.

The great paradox of the person and work of Jesus Christ is that He was the only man in human history who truly deserved to be treated like God (because, in fact, He is God, the Second Person in the Trinity). Yet the Lord Jesus Christ did not pridefully seek glory or fame. Look at how He responded, written clearly for us in Philippians 2:5-11.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus, the one Man who would have good reason to be treated as God, humbled Himself as a servant. He washed His disciples’ feet. He fraternized with outcasts and tax collectors and welcomed little children to His arms. He went to the cross as our spotless sacrificial lamb, silent before His accusers (Isaiah 53).

This is the cure to the sin of self-idolatry — Christ-like humility. May we not so easily fall into the trap of self-worship. Rather than focus solely on the sins that we see in others or the society at large we must come before the Lord and examine our own hearts and lay down our own idols.

Instead, let us seek to humble ourselves and serve others, as an act of worship to God, considering their best interests and needs, as our Lord has modeled perfectly for us.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.  – Psalm 95:6
