The border crisis takes center stage once again as a source claims there have been hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants that made it into the U.S. without being apprehended.

Speaking to Fox News, an unidentified source within Customs and Border Protection says that the government is aware of at least 599,000 migrants who evaded detainment and crossed the southern border into the mainland United States for all of Fiscal Year 2022.

Fox says that this amount of so-called “gotaways” equates to about 50,000 per month and over 1,500 per day.

The term “gotaways” refers to migrants who were detected but never apprehended due to a lack of manpower.

The number of gotaways for FY22 is up by almost 200,000 from Fiscal Year 2021, which was reportedly 389,155. This number was reported by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas when questioned by Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ariz.) during a House Judiciary Committee meeting.

The shocking number adds to the mounting concerns over the security situation at the southern border. FISM News reported in September that the most recent CBP data showed it had encountered over 2,150,000 migrants in Fiscal Year 2022. This represented an increase from Fiscal Year 2021, which saw over 1,734,000 migrant encounters total.

Despite the increasing figures at the southern border, the Biden administration continues to tell Americans that the border is secure. During an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” in mid-September, Vice President Kamala Harris caught flak for explicitly stating that “we have a secure border” despite the 2 million crossings for the last Fiscal Year.

Even former Democratic President Bill Clinton admitted to the danger at the border. In a recent podcast with CNN, Clinton told host Fareed Zakaria that there “is a limit to how many migrants any society can take without severe disruption and assistance, and our system is based much more on an assumption that things would be more normal.”
