In an election year where the house and the senate could very well flip to Republican control, Georgia finds itself again playing a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of American politics.
A new poll conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) indicates that many of the high-profile races in the state of Georgia are breaking for Republicans. The poll surveyed 861 likely voters in the peach state and came up with results that are making some Democrats nervous.
Governor Brian Kemp’s steady lead over his political rival Stacey Abrams seems to be widening as the latest poll reflects a commanding 8% lead in the race for governor.
In the contest for lieutenant governor, Republican state senator Burt Jones is up by a wide 10-point margin over his Democrat opponent Charlie Bailey.
Embattled Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger seems to have shaken off any residual fallout from his refusal to aggressively pursue election integrity concerns in the midst of the 2020 presidential election. He is up by nearly 20 points over challenger Bee Nguyen.
Incumbent Attorney General Chris Carr has a healthy 7% lead over Democratic State senator Jen Jordan.
Perhaps the most concerning result from the AJC poll for Democrats is the fact that former football great Herschel Walker has a 1.6% lead over Senator Raphael Warnock in a race that could very well tip the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
However, Senator Warnock’s campaign manager Quentin Fulks is not pushing the panic button just yet.
“Here’s what we do know: this race will be close, which is why we can’t take anything for granted and we are working hard every day to reelect Reverend Warnock. There are going to be polls in all directions over the course of this campaign,” Fulks told Fox News Digital.
His assertion seems to be buttressed by the fact that the recent Marist and Quinnipiac polls have his candidate up by 5 and 6 points respectively. However the Insider Advantage/Fox 5 Atlanta poll has Walker up by 3 percentage points.
Both candidates would prefer to talk about their ideological differences rather than field questions about their personal lives. Both men have had to address embarrassing allegations made by their estranged wives.
